This is so sad ! Manchester United defender Luke Shaw was carried off with a suspected broken leg just 15 minutes into the first half of Manchester United's Champions League tie against PSV Eindhoven.
Luke Shaw burst past two defenders and into the penalty box when he was caught by PSV defender Hector Moreno.
The match was held up for 7 minutes as Shaw received medical treatment on the pitch. When the match resumed, the referee did not think it was a foul and awarded a corner kick.
BT Sport pundit Michael Owen said:
'A lot of the time, you will a challenge coming in a as a player you sometimes ride the challenge, but when you see the goal you plant your leg, thinking you have a chance to score. The player’s come in and he’s snapped his leg in half, basically. It’s a gruesome thing to see.
'He’s in fantastic hands, I can vouch for that. You don’t want to see the replay as it was such a horrific injury. You feel so sorry for him. He’s had his injury problems since joining Manchester United, and this season he has been sensational.
'Everyone has been full of praise for him, he’s been absolutely brilliant for United and it’s such a big blow for club and country. When I played in a game for Liverpool there were two broken legs in one game and it takes you back 10 minutes, it’s not easy.
'You just hope that it’s almost half-way up between the knee and the ankle, it’s almost mid-range between the knee and ankle, I’m presuming it’s straight forward, two bones down the leg. It should be a straight-forward rehab, but you just hope there are no more complications in there.
'It’ll be next year before you see him again, but Steve McNally and Neil Hough are right are the top of their profession. He’s in really good hands.
