Some Notable Features And Specs About Apple Latest Flagship Device: The iPhone 7 & 7Plus

The iPhone 7 is here people! Apple has just showed off its latest flagship iPhone at its annual September event in the US. Most of the rumours that have been circulating about what the iPhone will look like and what features it will have just been confirmed!
Apple's iPhone 7 & 7Plus

Yes, people. Just like we have been hearing, the new iPhone 7 will not have a 3.5mm headphone jack. If you’re buying the new iPhone 7, your music needs will be sorted with new lightning earbuds in the box or the company’s new wireless AirPods. However, you will still be able to use your old headphones because Apple is also including a dongle that connects to the iPhone 7.
The design is also like the rumours and renders have been predicting. The new iPhone 7 and 7 Plus will have a redesigned antenna different from the one on the iPhone 6s and 6S Plus. It would seem that the idea is to clean up the back of the iPhone a bit more enhancing its simplistic design and ensuring the almost bare back looks even less busy.

The Home button has already been redesigned and Apple says it is now “customizable”. Like the rumours have been suggesting, the new Home button is not clickable like on the 6s but force sensitive with haptic feedback just like on the latest MacBooks and the Apple Watch.
New for the iPhone 7 is a new IP67 rating which means it is both water – up to 30 minutes in 1 meter of water – and dust resistant.

In terms of camera power, the iPhone 7 comes with Optical Image Stabilization on all models, a new sensor [60% faster, 30% more efficient], and a new image processor. Apple also says the new iPhone camera will be able to take better low-light photos and it will have a f/1.8 aperture, six-element lens, Quad-LED True Tone flash, an Apple-designed ISP, and a wide color gamut.
The iPhone 7 Plus on the other is another ball game entirely. It will come with all the goodies in the iPhone 7 but it will have dual lenses instead of which one will be a wide-angle lens while the other will be a Telephoto lens. The two lenses will also be used for zooming – not digital zoom like current iPhones have – and the phone will use the second Telephoto lens to take very crisp close shots. The camera app on the iPhone 7 Plus will also have a “Depth Effect” feature that allows you put the subject in the forefront in focus and blur the background scene. The feature will come as a free software update when the iPhone 7 Plus hits shelves later this year.

apple-lightning-dongle-for-earphone
The new iPhone also has new Retina HD displays that have the same resolution as the iPhone 6s but is 25% brighter. This helps the new iPhone get a two-hour battery boost over the iPhone 6s.
Apple’s latest flagship will also be more powerful than the iPhone 6s. It will have a new A10 “Fusion” chip that is more efficient and powers all the wireless AirPod stuff, make the new iPhone faster, and offer “console-level” gaming power on the new iPhone.
Another interesting feature is that storage options on the new iPhone now start at 32GB. Other available options will be 128GB and 256GB variant.
Finally, the iPhone 7 will cost $649 (just like the iPhone 6s when it was launched) while the iPhone 7 Plus will cost $769. Pre-orders for the phones will start on September 9, and the phones will be shipped starting from September 16. The Apple AirPods will cost $160 but will not be available till late October and iOS 10 will be available from September 13.

Technology And Mark Zuckerberg’s Facebook Has Brought Nigeria A Long Way

We’ve come a long way.
Zuckerberg taking selfies with Buhari, Osibanjo and others

Pictures of Pope Zuckerberg in Nigeria brought back a flood of memories. There was a time in the recent past when technology and access to technology was not as common as it is now.
In 2001, I was on a three month Internship program with NCR in Lagos. NCR was then the largest manufacturer of ATMs in the world. At that time, ATMs were not commonplace in Nigeria.

The bank with the largest network of ATMs then was SGBN (Societe Generale Bank Nigeria). They had ATMs in all their Lagos branches (Ikeja, Apapa, Marina, Victoria Island) and in other parts of the country.
Equity Bank also had a couple of ATMs at their headquarters in Marina, Ikoyi Club and the local airport. First Bank had an ATM at their Marina headquarters. There were a couple of other ATMs at some airports (Lagos, Abuja, Kaduna) and at Nicon Noga Hilton (now Transcorp Hilton).
Memories stand out.

An adult asked me what the company I ‘worked for’ did. I remember describing ATMs as simply as I could in Yoruba – (ti e ba ki card sinu e , owo ma jade) i.e machines that would give you money if you put a card in them.
I remember the person exclaiming, ‘blood of Jesus, that is a sign of the anti-Christ’. Back in the day, technology and the concept of the Antichrist were synonyms. ðŸ™‚
At the end of the internship, I had to go back to University of Ibadan to defend my work experience. It was popularly called I.T defence.
Most of my classmates talked about computer assembly and repairs and I noticed that the lecturer/ officials presiding nodded their heads to show understanding of the subject.
I thought to myself, ‘why put my academic success in jeopardy by telling them of some strange money vomiting machines that are going to bring the world to an end?’
In five minutes, I changed my presentation and talked about time spent doing imaginary computer repairs.
We have come a long way.

See The Countries With The Fastest Internet In The World (See List)

Electronic devices are things that we use every day and has a huge influence on our daily life.
Especially the Internet is becoming more and more important for nearly everybody, probably more important than the devices themselves, and is now our most preferred means of everyday communication.
However, to enjoy the uninterrupted services of the internet, you need to have good connectivity. There are two important metrics in bandwidth allocation (measured in Megabits per second or Mbps): download and upload speed, denoting the speed of inbound and outbound data respectively.
The average web page loads at 6.3 Mbps universally, a number that denotes how many million bits of data can be moved in a second.
While 6.3 mbps is quick enough to send an email or watch a Netflix show, it’s still very slow.
Akamai Technologies, a Massachusetts-based internet provider, did a study on how the internet speeds measure up in countries worldwide. The company releases a report every quarter that ranks countries as per their internet speed.
According to them, here are the top 10 countries, which are mentioned in descending order of net connectivity.
1. South Korea
According to the Akami report, people in South Korea enjoy the fastest internet in the world. The country’s average internet speed measures 29 Mbps, which is 4.6 times as quick as the global average.
To put things in perspective, the average HD film is about 5,000 MB. A computer could download that in a little over two and a half minutes at 29 Mbps speed.
In spite of more than 80% of South Korean households have access to some of the world’s fastest internet connections, they face usage limitations. Several internet users have to face strong internet censorship in South Korea, according to a report released last year by the nonprofit Freedom House.
2. Norway
Norway witnessed the biggest growth (68%) in internet speed at 21.3 Mbps since last year in comparison to any other country in the top 10. At this speed, a computer could upload or download about five high-quality photos per second.
3. Sweden
Sweden’s internet offers an average of 20.6 Mbps, which means that many people hardly face any experience delays, even if they have multiple applications running that use a lot of bandwidth.
Since last year, the country has noticed a 32% increase in speed.
4. Hong Kong
Hong Kong was the first country in the world to hit 60 Mbps in 2013. Today, its residents enjoy an average internet speed of 19.9 Mbps.
5. Switzerland
The internet in Switzerland rises at an average 18.7 Mbps, a 25% increase from last year.

Alphabet: GSK and Google Parent Forge $715 Million Bioelectronic Medicines Firm

GlaxoSmithKline and Google parent Alphabet's life sciences unit are creating a new company focused on fighting diseases by targeting electrical signals in the body, jump-starting a novel field of medicine called bioelectronics.
Verily Life Sciences - known as Google's life sciences unit until last year - and Britain's biggest drugmaker will together contribute 540 million pounds ($715 million) over seven years to Galvani Bioelectronics, they said on Monday.
The new company, owned 55 percent by GSK and 45 percent by Verily, will be based at GSK's Stevenage research center north of London, with a second research hub in South San Francisco.
It is GSK's second notable investment in Britain since the country voted to leave the European Union in June. Last week it announced plans to spend 275 million pounds on drug manufacturing.
Galvani will develop miniaturized, implantable devices that can modify electrical nerve signals. The aim is to modulate irregular or altered impulses that occur in many illnesses.
GSK believes chronic conditions such as diabetes, arthritis and asthma could be treated using these tiny devices, which consist of a electronic collar that wraps around nerves.
Kris Famm, GSK's head of bioelectronics research and president of Galvani, said the first bioelectronic medicines using these implants to stimulate nerves could be submitted for regulatory approval by around 2023.
"We have had really promising results in animal tests, where we've shown we can address some chronic diseases with this mechanism, and now we are bringing that work into the clinic," he told Reuters.
"Our goal is to have our first medicines ready for regulatory approval in seven years."
GSK first unveiled its ambitions in bioelectronics in a paper in the journal Nature three years ago and believes it is ahead of Big Pharma rivals in developing medicines that use electrical impulses rather than traditional chemicals or proteins.
The tie-up shows the growing convergence of healthcare and technology. Verily already has several other medical projects in the works, including the development of a smart contact lens in partnership with the Swiss drugmaker Novartis that has an embedded glucose sensor to help monitor diabetes.

GRAIN OF RICE

Famm said the first generation of implants coming to market would be around the size of a medical pill but the aim eventually was to make them as small or smaller than a grain of rice, using the latest advances in nanotechnology.
Patients will be treated with keyhole surgery and the hope is that bioelectronic medicine could provide a one-off treatment, potentially lasting decades.
Major challenges including making the devices ultra low-power so that they function reliably deep inside the body.
The idea of treating serious disease with electrical impulses is not completely new.
Large-scale electrical devices have been used for years as heart pacemakers and, more recently, deep brain stimulation has been applied to treat Parkinson's disease and severe depression, while EnteroMedics last year won U.S. approval for a device to help obese people control their appetite.
Galvani, however, is taking electrical interventions to the micro level, using tiny implants to coax insulin from cells to treat diabetes, for example, or correct muscle imbalances in lung diseases.
Galvani will initially employ around 30 scientists, engineers and clinicians.
The company will be chaired by Moncef Slaoui, GSK's vaccines head, who pioneered the drugmaker's drive into the bioelectronics field. Slaoui is retiring from GSK next March but will continue to steer Galvani after that date, a spokesman said.
Galvani will be fully consolidated in GSK's financial statements, following the model of the group's majority-owned ViiV Healthcare business, which sells HIV medicines.

4 Important Tips For Traveling With A Smartphone

Taking your smartphone (probably the one with a 5000+mAh like the tecno l8 or something" along on a journey can makes life easier for you with applications like instagram and nairaland designed quickly to entertain you at just one tap on your screen and also portable device with great internet facility is likely one of the most essential tools to carry.

Along with the convenience of choosing a phone over a laptop, here are some tips to take to heart when traveling with a mobile device anywhere in the world.

TURN OFF AUTO SYNC
Most mobile applications consume a lot of data when left to run in the background but my phone doesn't do that,i have no idea probably because of it large mah but you still have to turn off the ‘auto-sync’ from the phone’s settings page. If it requires frequent updating or provides irrelevant news service, then that app should not be a priority. There’s also the added benefit of enjoying a stress-free journey without the buzzing sound of a phone rattling everyone’s nerves.

SWITCH TO AIRPLANE MODE FOR FASTER CHARGING

In a hurry and need the battery-life to recharge at top speed? Switching to airplane mode is the answer. With limited apps making use of the dry-cell, chances of the phone battery getting to 100% is higher. As an added advantage, get shorter cables – instead of long ones – to reduce the travel time from the power source to the smartphone.

BEWARE OF UNPROTECTED Wi-Fi

Checking into a hotel with free WiFi is great but if it’s an open space, then a little caution is needed. There are viruses and phishing mails constantly looking for easy prey, so find out if the free internet access a password or some two-step authentication process required before logging in.

SIM CARD

Upon arrival at a foreign destination, purchase a local SIM card. This way, roaming charges diminish and call rates are cheaper. Plus, local network service providers constantly give discounts on domestic SIM cards...

Wow!! This Mattress Can Detect When Someone Else Is Having S*x In Your Bed, It Will Even Text You

There is a new mattress in town called “Smartress” It can detect and tell when someone is having s*x on your Bed, You will get a Text message immediately.
In order to put an end to disloyalty and infidelity between couples, Spanish matress company called Durmet has come up with this awesome smart mattress that knows when someone else is in your bed. More crucially it can detect s*x, that isn’t you, and alert you to the apparent adultery.
The smart mattress, dubbed Smartress, works by using 24 ultrasonic sensors, in conjunction with an algorithm, can detect the frequency and intensity of bouncing on its surface. It can then use its battery powered brain to send a message to the owner.
It’s smart enough to recognise the difference between someone sitting on the bed, say, and the real deal going down. So you shouldn’t get alerts every time the kids jump on the bed or when someone’s sitting in the bedroom.
smartress
According to the manufacturer, the mattress was created to deal with the apparently huge “Global Infidelity Crisis” problem of adultery in the Spain and world wild. The company slogan goes: “If your partner isn’t faithful, at least your mattress is.”
……… But what if they decided to do it on the Couch or Chair, How do I Detect? – Nigerians are Smarter joor

7 Weird Places We Charge Our Phones

Electric power shortage/unavailability has been a scourge in Nigeria, which we have adapted to as a country because there seems to be no solution presently at hand.

In this era of smart phones, that comes with major flaw of having battery life that tend to drain out faster: Nigerians have to improvise alternative means to charge their phones since not everybody can afford using the generator always. You see people moving about with their charger looking for any available opportunity to charge their phones.

Here are some of the weirdest places we charge our phones.

1.Gas Stations: since the stations need to power their generators when selling fuel, people use that opportunity to locate the nearest one to them to charge their devices. There is high rate of theft here and also not possible when they don’t have fuel for sale.

2.Churches: people that attend church services in my area to charge their phones is increasing daily. They now pray the service last longer so that they can charge longer. You will see their demeanour change or turn back home whenever the church’s generator is faulty.

3.Banks: so I was on a queue inside one of the new generation banks, when a very good looking man came in and went directly to the water dispenser to drink a cup of water; immediately located an electricity wall-socket and plugged in his charger then sat down like someone about to deposit a huge sum of money (na charge e come charge). Many banks are halting such activities in their premises for security reasons.

4.Commercial Buses/taxies: people don’t struggle only for comfortable seats in buses again, they now struggle to use the car charger. They pass turn as if is a matter of life and death and some even forgets to pick their phones while alighting.

5.Salons: this is always an opportunity for me to charge since am a customer and I take it that charging is one of the services offered by the salon. The time limit depends on the style but as a sharp guy, to extend my charging time, I find faults and always correct the barber for long so that he will take his time while I continue my act.

6.Football Viewing Centres: 90 minutes is too much of a time to stay without charging after paying to watch a match. People flood viewing centres with their gadgets in order to charge them while enjoying the match. One’s attention is always divided since one must be vigilant because of thieves.

7.Restaurants: hungry or not, sometimes I just take a walk to a restaurant across my street; order a bottle of drink; sit close to a wall socket then plug in my charger then chill and enjoy my bottle for the next 2 hours till I get a full battery.

where do you charge your phones folks?
