A fearless Italian model spent 10 hours in June swimming with crocodiles in a lagoon in the Gulf of Mexico - some 30 miles from the coast - which is home to over 700 American crocodiles. In one extraordinary shoot, Roberta Mancino came face-to-face with a four-meter-long American crocodile.
The photography team captured some enchanting pictures of Mancino inches away from the predators, when the crocodiles become more comfortable in her presence as she tried to be nice.
Mancino said it has been a long-held dream for her to swim with crocodiles, but no one dared to fund her project before “because it is so dangerous.”
The Banco Chinchorro atoll reef is regarded as one of the best places in the world to see American crocodiles, where they can grow to between 2.5 and 4 metres long. Diving companies provide crocodile-watching trips for people, but most would refrain from coming so close to the enormous reptiles.
