A new Commander has been appointed for Operation Pulo Shield. He is Major General Alani Gafar Okunlola. Until his new appointment, General Okunlola was the immediate past Acting Chief of Training and Operations at the Department of Army Training and Operations (DATOPS) Army Headquarters Abuja. He took over from Major General Emmanuel Atewe who was redeployed to Defence Headquarters Abuja.
In his maiden address to officers and men during the handing and taking over ceremony held at the permanent site, headquarters of the Operation Pulo Shield situated at Igbogene in Yenegoa, General Okunlola enjoined them to see their posting to the area as a call to duty and service urging them to be selfless in the discharge of the mandate of the task force in the area.
He also urged them on the need to operate within the confine of the law reminding them that the Military is subject to both military and civil law.
The Commander said the fight against oil theft is critical to the nation’s economy and pledged to approach his duty with dedication and commitment.
In addition, he urged the various stakeholders which includes oil producing communities and multinational oil companies to support the anti-corruption campaign of the Federal Government by supporting the fight against illegal oil bunkering, oil theft, pipeline vandalism and other sundry crimes in the region.
